Our Work
CORE THEMES
At the Institute’s first planning retreat in Spring 2009, USC faculty from throughout the university prioritized five core global health themes:
- Chronic Disease
- Environmental Health
- Globalization, Business, and Health
- Health Communication, Entertainment and the Arts
- Capacity Building and Training
Working groups, each consisting of faculty from multiple schools, have been formed around each theme in order to identify specific multi-disciplinary projects to pursue. Each group has two co-chairs that serve as the Steering Committee for the Institute.
GLOBAL HEALTH EVENTS
The Institute is hosting and highlighting global health activity and events on and around USC. Among the events hosted by the Institute are a Global Health Lecture Series, Conferences and Monograph Series, and Global Health Awareness Week events among others.
This year marks the launch of the monthly Global Health Lecture Series: Visions for Change, featuring world renowned global health pioneers from around the world. Click here to learn more and to RSVP.
STUDENT GRANT PROGRAMS
The Institute is committed to supporting meaningful hands-on experiences for USC students interested in global health issues. The Institute currently has two granting mechanisms through which students who exemplify interest and promise in carrying out global health projects can secure funding through two grant programs: Research Immersion Grants and Action Grants.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
USC is a major center of research, education, and training with a large capacity of multi-country reach, a strong commitment to globalization, and the founder of the Assoication of Pacific Rim Universities. With the most international students than any other university in the country and multiple cross-disciplinary initiatives, the University provides numerous opportunities to study and train in the global health field. The Institute for Global Health serves as a locus for education and training programs in global health. Currently, USC offers three degree tracks specific to global health and many minors and programs dedicated to complementary issues.
RESEARCH AND SERVICE
Faculty and students across the university are involved in innovative, collaborative research and service projects aimed toward combatting global health challenges. The Institute for Global Health aims to consolidate and expand the global projects to highlight the dedication of faculty and students across the University. Our Research & Service Map expands beyond the University Park and Health Science Campus to feature projects and programs around the globe. Add your project here.
