In the context of a rapidly evolving policy environment for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) and the possible shift towards immediate initiation of lifelong highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) for all women diagnosed with HIV in the context of pregnancy, further insight is required into women’s experiences in PMTCT services and how these may affect their uptake of HIV-related services. This literature review aimed to synthesize existing peer-reviewed literature on this topic and to highlight areas where further research is required.
