In honor of Human Rights Day 2013, the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization launched a new campaign entitled “Umbrellas,” symbolizing the protection that health-related legislation provides. The campaign was announced at PAHO’s meeting which was mainly composed of experts in law, human rights, and health. USC and Georgetown University were the only academic institutions in attendance. The meeting was convened in order to strategize about strengthening national laws that affect public health in the Americas, and Professor Gruskin presented on the view from academia related to this work.
