Research examines approach to preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Kenya

Professor Laura Ferguson has spent three weeks conducting research in Kenya funded by the USC Zumberge Fund Individual Grant she was awarded in 2013. Her research seeks to assess the acceptability of a novel approach to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) that is currently being piloted in two referral hospitals in Kenya. Based on a review of clinical data as well as interviews with PMTCT clients and health workers, the findings will help inform the national decision regarding whether or not the policy should be rolled out nationally in Kenya.
