WHO report analyzes how to ensure human rights within contraceptive programs

Posted on

This month the World Health Organization published a report entitled “Ensuring human rights within contraceptive programmes, a human rights analysis of existing quantitative indicators.” Professor Sofia Gruskin served as the key academic partner in this project and the development of the report, which represents a major step in bridging the gap between the indicators used to measure the success of contraceptive programs and the international human rights commitments of the countries that implement them.

The report proposes key quantitative indicators, highlights their limits and sets the stage for refinement of quantitative indicators to better capture human rights concerns and the additional development of qualitative and policy indicators as essential for monitoring the promotion or violations of human rights in contraceptive programs around the world.
