This month Professor Laura Ferguson traveled to The Gambia to continue her ongoing work with the World Bank focused on maternal and child nutrition and health. The primary purpose of this trip was to assist the monitoring and evaluation team within the National Nutrition Agency and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to strengthen the national health management information system. The purpose was to maximize the potential for learning through routine data collection and analysis and to build the capacity of the government and its partners. Activities included analysis and alignment of the existing tools and databases to help ensure that data on health and nutrition are being accurately monitored and to increase the potential for research in The Gambia moving forward.
