10/12/17 – Women Leaders in Global Health Conference

Register for this one-day conference highlighting emerging and established women leaders in global health.

This conference is inspired by the large and growing number of women in global and public health, and frustration about the lack of diversity and representation of women in global health leadership positions. Women comprise as much as 75 percent of the health workforce in many countries and the majority of students in academic global health tracks. Yet they hold only 8 of 34 World Health Organization executive board positions and fewer than 1 in 4 global health leadership positions at the top 50 U.S. medical schools. Young women are entering the field in increasing numbers, but at each step of the ladder the percentage of women in power decreases.

Faculty, students, leaders from non-profits, foundations, companies and governments, with emphasis on international participations, are invited to attend. This event is organized by a steering committee of global experts, including Heather Wipfli, associate director of the USC Institute for Global Health, and will take place at Stanford University.

Participants will encounter cutting-edge thinking in global health; network with potential mentors, collaborators and others in the field; build leadership skills; and wrestle with how to advance women as a force in global health leadership.
