Kiros Berhane, Ph.D., is a professor within the Division of Biostatistics as well as director of Graduate Programs in Biostatistics and Epidemiology for the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California.
Dr. Berhane is a widely published and leading expert on development of statistical methods for environmental research and their application to examine the effects of air pollution on children’s respiratory and cardiovascular health.
He has been leading several NIH-funded grants including statistical methods development projects from NIEHS based on the landmark Southern California Children’s Health Study; an NCI grant on effects of the built environment on development of childhood obesity; an NICHD grant on statistical methods development for childhood obesity; and the Fogarty-funded East Africa GEOHealth Hub with Institute for Global Health Director Jonathan Samet.
He has maintained strong interest in global health research and capacity-building activities in Africa and is in the planning stages of launching an intervention study on effects of clean cookstoves on child survival in Ethiopia.
