A group of 11 USC students were embedded as delegates to NCD Alliance members at the 71st World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the annual course “Global Health Governance & Diplomacy in Practice in Geneva at the World Health Assembly.” The decision-making body of the World Health Organization, the WHA is attended by delegations from all WHO Member States and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the executive board.
Advising WHO work
During the trip, World Health Organization invited young professionals, including USC’s team, to give input on new technologies, medications and approaches in sexual and reproductive health. Each USC student played a role in the consultation. With self-administered methods like birth control, home pregnancy tests, fertility monitoring, and more, on the rise, WHO sought guidance from young people, as both users and future providers of these methods for sexual and reproductive health care.
