GHAWUSC Global Health Awareness Week 2014: Vector-Borne Disease took place March 31 – April 5. The week’s events focused on global health awareness on issues from gender-transformative health programming to malaria, and concluded with the annual community health fair World Health Day LA.

Global Health Speaker Series

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. | TCC 450, UPC — Students learned about vector-borne diseases with field experts Dr. Ed Avol, USC Professor of Clinical Medicine, and Dr. Aydogan Ozcan, Chancellor’s Professor in the UCLA Departments of Electrical Engineering and Bioengineering.

Tuesday, April 1

Networking Luncheon

12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. | USC TCC 450 — Students networked with health professionals and USC faculty at this free luncheon.

Wednesday, April 2

Nothing But Nets 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament

5:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. | USC Watts Way Basketball Courts — Students showed their net skills in a friendly basketball tournament that benefited malaria-prevention organization Nothing But Nets.

Friday, April 4

Master of Public Health Student & Faculty Mixer

5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. | HSC Soto Street Building Lobby — A celebration of public health and the Trojan Family, this mixture invited USC graduate students to meet and mingle with Master of Public Health faculty and students in the online MPH program.

World Health Day LA

Ramona Gardens —This collaborative, local community health screening event in Ramona Gardens offered family-friendly activities and a health and wellness fair.
