Global Health Awareness Week at USC covered a variety topics from from water access to stress. A networking events, contest, speaker panel, film screenings and more provided ample opportunity for interested students to learn more about global health issues and career possibilities.

Monday, April 1
Kickoff Workshop
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | USC Alumni Park — To kick off Global Health Awareness Week students participated in interactive heart health activities.
Tuesday, April 2
Networking Luncheon
11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | USC Tutor Campus Center 450 — Health professionals and USC faculty networked with students at a free luncheon.
Speaker Panel
6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. | USC Tutor Campus Center 450 — A panel discussion featured Dr. C. Noel Bairey Merz, director of the Women’s Heart Center; Dr. Ryan Bradley, director of the Center for Diabetes & Cardiovascular Wellness School of Naturopathic Medicine at Bastyr University; and Dr. Heather Shenkman, interventional cardiologist at Lakeside Community Healthcare Medical Group.

Dealing with Stress: A Collaborative Mural
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. | USC Alumni Park— Students shared ideas and relieved stress through a collaborative art mural.
Film Screening: La Source
5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. | USC Tutor Campus Center 227 — The award-winning documentary produced by Generosity Water, La Source tells the story of one man’s journey to bring clean water to his village in Haiti. The screening was followed by a Q&A with Generosity Water representatives.

Short Film Screening @UPC
12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. | USC Rosen Family Screening Theater — Grandmothers: The Unsung Heroes of Africa is a short film by the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The film was screened in advance of his April 9 lecture.

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Broad CIRM Center 101 — Women: The Face of AIDS is a short film by the Stephen Lewis Foundation. The film was screened in advance of his April 9 lecture.

10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. | Los Angeles Expo Center, Soboroff Sports Field —This community event provided a day of free family-friendly sports activities and health screenings.
