Global Health LIVE goes global—live

Global Health LIVE is a new and innovative graduate seminar for Master of Public Health students from Association of Pacific Rim Universities member schools. The course, co-taught by USC Institute for Global Health faculty members Drs. Mellissa Withers and Shubha Kumar, was offered for the first time in Fall 2015 and extends the theory of global health to its practice, focusing on the relationship between health, foreign policy and global health leadership.

For 10 weeks of live, weekly, two-hour video sessions, students attended from USC; University of California, Irvine; University of Tokyo; National Taiwan University and Chinese University of Hong Kong. Guest lecturers included noted global health leaders, including Hans Rosling, Purnima Mane, Al Sommer and Larry Gostin. The students interacted with the lecturers and each other; one of the major assignments required working in groups across the universities to create the following videos on global health leadership topics:
